The Human Rights Association for the Assistance of Prisoners (HRAAP) welcomes to the decision of the High Consultative Committee for the Radio and TV festival, to choose “Mass Media and the Human Rights” as a motto for the 10th festival of the Radio and TV.

The association received gratefully the news of choosing “Mass Media and the Human Rights” as a motto for the 10th festival of the Radio and TV, which is considered a positive step to the position of the human rights on the map of the radio and TV programs.

This decision is according with the call of the association to the Union of the Radio and TV in its statement issued in 12/10/2003 entitled “on the margin of the annual conference of the National Party, HRAAP calls the Union of the Radio and TV to place the human rights on the map of the radio and TV programs”, as the association assured the necessity to begin a wide information campaign entitled “Your Rights as a Citizen”, which tackles in each episode one of the human rights stated in the international charters as the Egyptian law guarantees it, and the authorities to which the citizen can resort to submit his complaint once he is object to any kind of violation. Also, the program could include models of cases that were exposed to violating their rights as citizens, and the authorities they resorted to and the achieved results.

It is worth mentioning that, the association assured that such these programs may encourage the citizens to defend their rights, to reduce violating these rights and prevail reassurance in society, and to confirm that the state does not shelter the violators of the human rights whoever they are and whatever their positions.
