Cairo: October 4, 2004
On October 13, 2004 Wednesday at 10 am and through a symbolic party in which some of the Egyptian symbols that struggled against all restricting law to the general rights and freedoms for Egyptians especially Emergency Law under the slogan “We Deserve Freedom”. HRAAP begin a campaign that will continue for two years from 2004 to 2006 for putting an end to emergency state in Egypt. It is planned to include many activities such as seminars, conferences, studies, reports and legal and judicial aids.
The importance of this campaign lies in the results of the continuation of the emergency state in Egypt for continuous 23 years from 1981 to 2004 as this state grants the republic president, as the military ruler or his representative, the prime minister and the Ministry of Interior strong authorities to put restraints on individuals freedom and rights like putting restraints on individuals freedom in meetings, movement and stay in addition to arresting and trawling them and places without complying with the provisions of the law of the criminal procedures. In addition, this law grants the military ruler or his representatives an authority to monitor letters, newspaper, bulletins, prints and all types of _expression and media before publishing it and preserving it and confiscating or suspending it[1].
The emergency environment represents a good environment for more human rights violations and spread of many phenomena like the recurrent detention others.
For the aforementioned, and the desire of HRAAP to the legal adherence concerning the state regulation and it its constitutional institutes and social values on the one hand and guaranteeing the citizen’s right to freedom and dignity in his nation and in his safe society, HRAAP launches its campaign for putting an end to emergency state in Egypt for two years till 2006 and this is the assigned year for considering the renewal of the emergency state for another period.
It is planned that the aforementioned party will begin at 10 am with a memorial lecture about the political, social and cultural impact for the continuation of emergency state in Egypt for 25 years. Dr. Mohamed Al Sayed Sa’ed, expert in Al Ahram for strategic and political studies will give the lecture following it honoring to some symbols in the Egyptian society from parliament members, journalists and public figures that struggled and are still struggling for putting an end to emergency state in Egypt. In this honoring party, those figures will be handed over armors, the party will concluded with a musical part. It is planned that some legal procedures for putting as end to emergency state in Egypt done by the legal aid unit in the association will be declared. The party will be held in Al Lotus hall in Pyramisa hotel opposite Cairo Sheraton in Al Dokky.
