HRAAP expresses its concern regarding the persistence of detaining hundreds of citizens from Northern Sinai; they are ranging approximately between 3000 and 5000, who are detained in an arbitrary detention campaign in the consequences of Taba bombing last moth.
In spite of HRAAP complete refusal to the terrorism and criminal attacks on Taba, what cannot be used as a justification to detain this huge numbers of citizens in this short time as we think it is the largest campaign happened 15 years ago. HRAAP also concerned about information and testimonies from some citizens who have been detained and released that they and their families have been exposed to torture at the hand of security officers and detaining them in hazardous conditions.
So, HRAAP appeals to Mr. Habib Al Adly, the Minister of Interior, to release all detainees from Sinai specially after the Ministry of Interior declared that the perpetrators of the attack on Taba have been arrested.
