In Cairo criminal court on Monday October 24, 2004 in the first session of the trial of five citizens from the police men in Helwan police station, the suspects are Mohamed Mahmoud Al Sharkawy “chief of Helwan investigation bureau”, Mohamed Hamdy Abdel Salam Al Sarwy “an investigation officer in Helwan police station”, Hussein Abdel Basir Abu Musallam “a police assistant in Helwan police station”, Abdel Khalek Yousef Abdel Khalek “a prime police man in Helwan police station”, Imadedin Abdallah Hassan “a police assistant in Helwan police station” in case No. 23976/2004 Helwan criminals and registered in No. 18429/2004 northern Cairo, registered in No. 65/2004 as they arrested two citizens Gamal Rady Saleh and his sister Nabaweya Rady Saleh from October 11 to October 14, 2003, and tortured them, in addition to detaining another seven citizens from the same family and detained them without any legal reason.
In the first session, the victim’s defense filed a compensation case of 5.000.000 L.E. against the ministry of Interior and the president in their capacity. In addition, the defense demanded a permission to issue some official papers that benefit inflicting fake accusations against victims from the side of the suspects. In addition, the suspects’ defense requested hearing the defense witnesses and another permission to issue an official copy of investigation conducted by the Attorney General bureau.
The court decided to adjourn the case to session of December 27, 2004 and permitted to issue the mentioned papers and assigning the victims to inform the officials of the civil rights and pay the case fees.
On the other, quarrels and fights took place between the colleagues and friends of the accused officers who made a human veil on the suspects’ cage to prevent anyone to take photos and some of their supporters assaulted on some lawyers in the court when all the attendance were waiting the court decision after the discussion.
