HRAAP appeals to his Excellency Mr. President to release the Egyptian detainees who are detained because of their solidarity with the Palestinian case

HRAAP appeals to Mr. President to release 42 Egyptian citizens, attached a list of their names, detained from 2000 to 2004 because of their participation in rage practices against the Israeli aggression on Palestinians then in addition to detaining 11 another Palestinian citizens from Al Arish and Rafah. The Ministry of Interior issued detention orders (political detention) and placed the majority of them in Al Gharbaneyat prison in Alexandria, although they have submitted grievances against the detention orders and they have got release orders, the Ministry of Interior did not put these orders into effect and get around carrying out these orders by detaining them by new detention orders whereas this matter repeats frequently. The matter is not exclusive to this degree, but they have been treated brutally and did not the proper medical care in spite of their serious health conditions that necessitate special care.

As a result of the refusal of the authorities in prison to respond to their demands and improve their treatment and carrying out the judicial release orders, those prisoners went on hunger strike as of May 22 of the current year as a protest against their dreadful conditions. Therefore, HRAAP submitted a report on this incident to many authorities to investigate into this hunger strike.

The hunger strike have continued some days till the Ministry of Interior separated them on many other prisons such as Tura, Abu Za’bal, Al Mansoura, Damanhour, Wady Al Natroun, Por Sa’ed and Al Zagazig.

The prisoners’ conditions stayed the same and as a result, the Ministry of Interior released the Palestinian detainees one after the other with July 2004 and since this date there is nothing new concerning the other Egyptian detainees.

It is worth mentioning that HRAAP submitted many complaints to many relevant authorities such the Ministry of Interior and the Attorney General to release those detainees especially under the assaults and arbitrariness of the Israeli occupation in Palestine and on the Egyptian borders whereas the last one is the incident of killing three Egyptian soldiers.

Therefore, HRAAP appeals to Mr. President to release the Egyptian detainees who are detained because of their solidarity with the Palestinian case against the brutal practices of the Israeli occupation.
