The Human Rights Association for the Assistance of Prisoners calls upon the US government to open investigation into the amputation of an Egyptian citizen's leg detained in Guantanamo as a result of negligence

as a new development in the conditions of the Egyptian detainees in Guantanamo bay, the last visit, to three Egyptian citizens detained there by American lawyers authorized by HRAAP to follow up their cases, revealed a dangerous incident represented in the amputation of the right leg of Adel Fattouh Al Gazzar as a result of the reluctance of medical care in Guantanamo that resulted in toxication in his injured leg. He underwent three failure surgeries in his infected leg and finally there was no way other than the amputation to save his life. This incident reveals the extent of maltreatment with detainees in Guantanamo in general that isolated place that lacks the proper medical care and humanitarian treatment with them.

Accordingly, HRAAP calls upon US government to open fair investigation into that incident and open this isolated detention to visits in order to allow the international community and human rights organizations to identify the extent of the medical guarantees to all detainees. In addition, HRAAP calls upon the Egyptian government to make contact with US government to identify the circumstances of this incident. Within this context, HRAAP submitted a request to US government through its embassy in Egypt to allow two lawyers to visit the Egyptian detainees in Guantanamo and recognize their medical and legal situation.  

On the other hand, contacts are still in process between our associated lawyers in America to release the Egyptian detainees Adel Fattouh Aly Al Gazzar, Sherrif Fathy Aly Al Mashad and Alaa El Din Mohamed Salem and take the proper guarantees of safe return especially that there are fears they will be jailed when repatriation due to security grounds and awaiting cases.
